A Sacred Space

Many of us spend our days in offices working in a little cubicle of space where we are expected to perform. All of us travel back and forth through the day in cars where we fight for a space in the traffic. Then we arrive at home where the list of chores is long and the stack of dishes higher. As life gets busy the beauty gets sucked out of our ordinary places. Our home, work, and natural world become places of inconvenience or annoyance rather than a glimpse at God's creation. It is growing more and more difficult to find "sacred ground".
As a community IKON hopes to find sacred space among San Francisco's ordinary places. Jesus sent his disciples into Jerusalem telling them, “A man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house he enters. Then say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?” ’ He will show you a large room. Make preparations there.” We believe that this call rings true for our community right now in the midst of our building search. We are working hard to prepare a place of worship for The City.
As of today we are in conversation with two different facilities in our neighborhood. Both are cultural centers for the city of San Francisco. The Mezzanine is a concert and club space that has weekly national acts and attracts a very diverse crowd. The other space, Project One, is a bit smaller but is filled with local art and frequently hosts social events and community meals. We believe that both of these spaces are a result of your prayer. We now ask that you pray specifically for wisdom (financial, practical, etc) and for the details to fall in place so that we may have an agreement with one of these venues in the coming week.
We are encouraged by this progress and look forward to the many great things that God will do with this prepared space.

With Hope & Gratitude

» Upcoming Gatherings  Our preview gatherings are just around the corner and begin September 13th. Please continue to pray for us as we try to secure a gathering space in the city for Ikon Christian Community.  Also pray that we would come into relationship with musicians and artists that can help us express the gospel to The City in a way that they will enjoy.

» Staff Transitions  Our beloved intern Keenan is leaving us to return to school. Pray that he have safe travels and a smooth transition back into academia. We also have two leadership residents, Duane and Abby Chew, who will be joining us in a matter of days. Pray that they find sufficient funds, good relationships, and a sense of joy as they walk into their new lives in San Francisco.

» New and Maturing Relationships We have a fantastic group of people who are committing to IKON. We are grateful for their passions and invite you to pray with us for an increased sense of influence in their given industries. We also ask that the relationships that have formed will continue to grow roots and that true community will be experienced.
